LOOK AT ME: MojoRising

October 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Ok, so they have a cool name. Who are MojoRising?

JJ – Vocals/wall of sound/keys/harmonica
Dan – Drums/percussion/sampler
mojo
They’ve been described as the Melbourne Duo who are

a mash of dance floor rock, soul and funky-ass riff ridden tunes.

I first saw them a few years ago at a small intimate gig of about 40 at The Saint! Now they’re making waves and have just jetted over to L.A to break into the U.S market and get some more recording done. I wish these dudes the best of luck. If you haven’t heard them before, have a watch of this:

LOVE at FIRST SUCK

October 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I first saw Chuck starring in a TV ad.

From that moment on, I knew I wanted him. Being the woman that I am, I got him. He came packaged with 50 Chupa Chups, an amazing Vintage designed Saint Lenny T-Shirt (celebrating 50 years of Chupa Chups) and a lovely little letter. What a package! chuppa - 01
From here on in, we – being my bi-polar other personality, Cherry – and Chuck formed a strong bond. It was great for a while, but then we hit a few rough patches. But, you know, Chuck is just so good at making LIFE LESS SERIOUS and he always knows how to calm me down. I LOVE CHUCK.

LOOK AT ME: Jeremy Sonnenberg

October 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

He’s 21, he’s cute, he’s cool and he’s in a band called CITY CALM DOWN. jez
They are in the Top 6 in the Toohey’s National ‘uncharTED’ competition and in the running to play at Big Day Out 2010. Please jump on the website today and VOTE for City Calm Down! ccd_grass1

Adrian Karvinen, A&R, Universal Music says:

City Calm Down is a live electronic four piece from Melbourne, Australia. With varying degrees of influence stemming from post-punk, disco, jazz, and techno they’re making an interesting brand of electronic dance pop. Their live show involves extensive use of samplers, synthesizers, sequencers and drum modules as well as the use of more traditional instruments such as bass guitar, saxophone, voice and kit.

…City Calm Down reminds me of the new wave acts of the 80’s – Depeche Mode, New Order even a hint of INXS. With a little more time in the studio and on the live circuit these guys could very well be the band to dance to in 2009.

SKYDECK!

October 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been a bit of a tourist in my own town lately, checking out places in Melbourne I’ve never seen before – since returning from my long overseas trip, I can’t get enough ‘looking’. This week I hit up Eureka Towers to do the dreaded EDGE experience off the Skydeck level. It wasn’t scary at all. It was lovely. The Brasilians, however, were a tad scared! The binocular things reminded me of my old kalidescope and I was totally intruiged and photographed through them for ages. Oh, we also had to wear these stupid booties to protect the glass thing, but I bet my mate Tracey-Lee was wearing heels when she did a shoot there earlier this year. Hmmm, damn un-equality.skyylnaggskyyyyskyeeskyeksyrtrcy

The Langham

October 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Popped into The Langham the other week with Jess for a feed and a massage. Heavan. If you’re staying in Melbourne & have some cash to spend, book a night here for sure. The hotel sits in the heart of the city along the Yarra with stunning views.

The VOICE!

Yep, I went to John Farnham’s Melbourne concert at the Palais, and he’s stilllllllll got it! Spunk rat. Actually working at his tour after-party this weekend, so that should be fun! I also had a lovely dinner at The Elbow Room with Mum and Jen before hand. St Kilda finally coming into summer – lovely.

Life’s a BITCH

October 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

New beer on the market, from the country somewhere in between Victoria and NSW, a rockin’ couple have brought out the new beer ‘BITCH’. Not only does it have a killer name, it’s 6%, which means blokes are going to love it. I’ve tried it, my housemate Hannah’s tried it, Lucas (23) tried it, Bryan (52) tried it, Dad (49) tried it – the verdict = BITCH is awesome. Look out for it! On another note, someone told me last week I should be a hand model. LOL.

Mmm, Food…

October 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I was in the city the other day for work and I was early and peckish. I came across this cute little French looking place called EMILY’S PLACE and it was totally cute. I had a skinny chai latte and a yummy muffin. It was so genuinely French, they even employed a spunky little French blonde girl to serve me! IMG00565-20091007-0950
Then last Thursday I headed down to LAIKA on Fitzroy St. It’s a mega suave cocktail and tapas bar. They have a huge selection of wines and the ambience is amazing. Thursday night was live jazz night, so I was very lucky also scoring a booth next to the fire place! The tapas was pretty much to die for and just dining in a place of such decadence, however, without the usual pretentiousness that comes with such a place, was a pleasure. They even had old and new malt Cachaça on their drinks menu – how’s that for variety. I will definately be heading back their soon. Thursday actually. And I hear Friday night it Motown music night – will have to do that when I get back from N.Z!
